Frequently Asked Questions

What are your office hours?

Our office hours are 8:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. Some physicians see patients by appointment earlier or later than our normal posted hours. Patients are seen in appointment time order, not by arrival time.

What if I have an after-hours emergency?

Our answering service receives calls after office hours and immediately refers emergencies to the "on-call" physicians, who will return your call and arrange to see you, night or day.

Do I need to bring anything special to my appointment?

Yes, you will need to bring your insurance cards, a photo ID and all of your medications you take on a regular basis.

If you have recently been treated for your problem at an emergency room or with another physician, please bring any xrays, MRI's that were taken.

Why do I need to bring my medications to my appointment?

One of the most important things to remember when visiting your doctor’s office or the hospital is to be prepared.

You will need to bring your current insurance cards, photo ID and the medications you take. Most people carry a list of their medications, but changes may not get recorded. It is important that each of your healthcare providers knows all the medications you take including strength of medication and dosage directions. It is also important for your surgeon to know about all over-the-counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.

What should I expect as a new patient?

As a new patient we will need additional time to prepare for your visit to the doctor, therefore, we ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment. You will be greeted and referred to a patient relations representative who will spend some time with you and will:

• ask the necessary questions to establish your medical records, and prepare your chart.

• explain the practice’s policies regarding prescriptions, refills, financial responsibility, etc.

• obtain information regarding your insurance coverage to assist us in filing a proper claim for you.

• give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

What should I do if I can’t keep a scheduled appointment?

Because we have reserved this time for you, please notify our office as soon as possible if you can’t keep your appointment. We maintain a waiting list and this will allow time to offer that time to another person who needs to see the doctor.

When can I get my prescription filled?

Prescriptions are refilled Monday through Friday. Please call our office from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and give the receptionist the refill information. She will then give the message to the nurse who will refill it or call you if she needs information after she has discussed the refill with the physician.

NOTE: Because a doctor different from the doctor who prescribed your medication may be on call and may not be familiar with your case we have implemented this prescription refill policy.

We ask that you pay close attention to your medication needs and ask for refills only during the hours of 9 to 4 Monday through Friday. NO REFILLS OR NEW PRESCRIPTIONS WILL BE WRITTEN BY THE ON-CALL PHYSICIAN AT NIGHT OR ON WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS.

What is your policy regarding payment and insurance?

Many changes in health care reimbursement have influenced the decisions we have made to adopt the following financial policies:

Patients who have insurance coverage:
Insurance companies with a co-pay clause: The co-payment required under your specific plan is paid at the time of check-in. We are required by contract to collect the co-pay at the time of each visit. Please come prepared to meet the requirements of your specific plan at the time of the visit.

Patients who have coverage with an insurance company with a general benefit plan:
A payment of 20% of the charges incurred is expected at the time of service. The insurance claim will be filed promptly within 48 hours. If there is a remaining balance which the insurance company states is the patient’s responsibility we will notify you.

Patients without insurance:
Please discuss your specific needs and make arrangements with the Patient Relations Representative at the time of your first visit to our office or as the needs arise.

Patients who were hurt on the job and are covered by Worker’s Compensation:
Bayside Orthopaedic's clinical staff is designed to care for the injured worker. Please note that due to specific regulations regarding the treatment of these particular patients, we must follow these guidelines:

The first appointment must be made by the employer or the Work Comp insurance case manager or adjustor.
The insurance information must be verified by our Verifications Clerk.
We must have permission to provide information to the employer and the insurance carrier.
Bayside will bill the appropriate responsible individuals.
No payment is made by the patient.

General financial and insurance guidelines:
Bayside has contracts with most major carriers. Therefore, the contract guidelines will be followed. However, patients with insurance coverage for non-contracted companies are responsible to follow Bayside’s financial guidelines which require payment for services rendered at the time of the visit.

Our Patient Relations Representative is available to discuss financial arrangements if these are needed. She is available to discuss fees and payments with you at any time.
