Dr. Dan MatthewsDr. Dan MatthewsIn 1998 Daniel E. Matthews, M.D. joined Bayside Orthopaedic, Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Center after practicing for three years at Langley AFB in Hampton, Virginia.

Dr. Matthews received his B.S. in Biology from The Citadel. He attended the University of South Florida School of Medicine and received his Doctorate of Medicine in 1990. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Trained as a trauma surgeon with an emphasis in Sports Medicine, he completed an AO/ASIF Trauma Fellowship in Bochum, Germany and now serves as Faculty Instructor for AO/ASIF North America and for the American College of Surgeons, Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

A former college athlete and avid athlete today, he continues to participate in many sports and has vast experience in caring for the injured athlete. He has served as the medical director for the Sports Medicine Department at the U.S. Sports Academy and is a member of the Doctors committee for the Senior Bowl. He assists with examinations and covers the sidelines for the North team's practices and the Annual All Star game.

Dr. Matthews is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

He has extensive experience in arthroscopic reconstructive techniques and has presented and published numerous clinical and scientific papers.

Dr. Matthews married his high school sweetheart, Cathy, and they have a daughter, Jordan, and a son, Seth.
